Artist Statement:
From the beginning of my pottery career, the making of pottery has led me to my Zen place. I endeavor to make work that comes straight from the hand, bypassing the brain. That is not to say it is unthoughtful. I have in mind what I wish to do and accomplish, but at that point I let the eye and the hand take over. And without copying them, I allow myself to be influenced by the work of other potters. With respect to this year’s theme of “Come Together” I have chosen sake sets. I make sake sets with two cups so that all three vessels are related. I find drinking sake with another person enriches the experience of being together.
