Artist Statement:
“Yum Cha” My early childhood when I was growing up in Hong Kong our families and friends would go “yum cha” to get together in celebrating holidays, birthdays, etc. “Yum Cha” literally means drink tea and is a meal where you have “dim sum” while sipping tea on the side. “Dim sum” is a traditional Chinese Cantonese meal made up of small plates of dumplings and other snack dishes. The dishes are shared among family and friends as they get together to catch up on family news, stories, etc. “Yum Cha” to me means families & friends coming together to share dim sums. For this “Come Together” exhibit, our audiences are coming together to view “yum cha”!
