Artist Statement:

This two part sculpture has the feeling of sand (unglazed areas) and water in motion (glazed areas). The two parts connect to each other by a continuous pattern that is broken by space between the forms.

Artist Bio:

I have been involved with clay since High School. In the early 70’s I began classes with Malcolm Wright whose Asian inspired pottery had a big influence on my work. In 2001 I began taking Classes with Georgia Tenore at the Clay Art Center. She introduced me to many techniques centered around throwing but eventually my interest in texture and surface led me in the direction of hand building using slabs primarily. Once I began making my own textures I began thinking about how they can generate ideas about form and function. The use of line is central to how I decorate the surface of my pieces and is inspired by nature. The varied textures allow the glaze to break revealing a subtle variation in color.
