Join us as Nikki takes you through the steps to make your very own ceramic sculptural plate or bowl of food, with an option for it to be functional. In this workshop you will learn how to make a plate or platter with a hanging system (for wall art). Explore ways to form different types of food; meats, dairy, vegetables, fruits, carbs etc. You will add textures and lazes to give depth and color to the food. Finally Nikki will demonstrate how to bring your creations together with glaze and underglaze to complete a beautiful plate of food.
Techniques that will be covered;
Handbuilding; Coil, pinch, kurinuki, texture imprinting
Glaze application: layering and fusing
Hanging systems
Recommended supplies:
Inspiration images for the meal that you want to create,
Basic pottery tools
Skill: All Levels

Artist Bio
Nikki Lau was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. She received her MFA in ceramics at Pennsylvania State University in 2016. She received her BA in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts at the University of Washington in 2008. She was the artist resident at The Clay Art Center in New York from 2018-2019 and the 2019-2020 resident at Armory Art Center in Florida. Her work is a mixture of sculpture and pottery. In 2020 at the height of the pandemic, Nikki found her way back to San Francisco. She started making and selling pottery full time. She currently splits her time between California and Pennsylvania living her snowbird life as she works on her pottery and home décor business Little Lau Shop @littlelaushop.

Workshop Enrollment and Refund Policies
PAYMENT
Tuition is due in full at time of registration.
All workshop registration and material purchases are conducted online only. We currently do not accept cash or checks. We accept all major credit cards.
Read workshop descriptions carefully for topics, dates, and times. CAC will send an email confirmation after registration.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
There will be no refunds or pro-rating options for late registration or missed workshop days/hours.
In the event that a student must withdraw their registration from a workshop, CAC will issue a full refund if cancellation is made 14 days prior to the start of class. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations made less than 14 days before the first day of the scheduled workshop. Tuition is non-transferable.
Exceptions are only made in the event of extenuating circumstances, but may require a doctor's note or written request describing the situation, and must be approved by CAC. Any refund made as an exception is subject to a $25 administrative and processing fee, to be deducted from the refund total
CAC reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment. If a course is cancelled, you will be notified of the cancellation via email prior to the start of the workshop.
LOCATION
Workshops at CAC are located in either the Main Classroom (entrance is located upstairs on the wooden deck) or the Annex Classroom (street level entrance)

MINORS
CAC requires written permission for all students under the age of 18 to enroll in any adult course. Teens (16+) are allowed to take adult courses if approved by CAC.
Please contact CAC if you want to enroll a minor in an adult course. and a permission form will be provided via email before the start date of the course. Email mail@clayartcenter.org.
WAITLISTS
If a workshop reaches the maximum number of students, you will have the option to join a waitlist.
If open spots become available in a waitlisted course, waitlisted students will be contacted to register. Please note, we notify the whole waitlist at once and space in classes is first come first serve, so it’s likely to sell out again quickly.
VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHS
CAC reserves the right to use photographs and/or videos taken during workshops to market and promote CAC and its programs.
Any student or legal guardian who does not wish to have his or her child photographed will be able to opt-out during registration.
