In this hands-on class, students with prior wheel experience will experiment with techniques in wheel throwing closed forms. Students will throw multiple forms, before moving on to explore a range of imaginative and unconventional construction techniques.

The workshop will begin with a comprehensive demonstration by artist Matt Wilt. Students will then be encouraged to experiment in marrying their functional thrown pieces with sculptural adaptations to achieve inspired original designs.

Clay and Firing are not included

Artist Bio

Matt Wilt is an artist who works in clay, steel, concrete and wood. He draws inspiration from Dadaist and Surrealist sculpture traditions challenging conventional boundaries of art making.

Matt is an Associate Professor of Art at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY, and has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards. He has received two Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grants, an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship, and the Evelyn Shapiro Foundation Fellowship. His artwork can be found in the collections of the Crocker Museum of Art in Sacramento, the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco, Arizona State University’s Ceramic Research Center, the Hand Art Center of Stetson University, the Kennedy Museum of American Art, and numerous other public and private collections. His work is exhibited and published nationally and internationally.
