2 Days.

Ages 17+

Join us for a hands-on workshop where you'll learn the art of screen printing on clay along with creating your own custom newsprint transfers. These techniques will allow you to recreate the wonderful aspects of commercial transfers - quick, repeatable designs, that can be layered to create beautiful results - in your own unique style! On the first day of the workshop we will learn how to create our own screens that can be used over and over again to print your personalized designs. On the second day, we will practice printing directly onto leather-hard slabs, and also create our own newsprint transfers.

Day 1
Students should come to the first day of the workshop with ideas and/or images for their screens. Printed or previously drawn images can be traced onto screens for more precise imagery, or students can free draw for a looser feel. Keep in mind that we will be printing using just one color, so imagery should be fairly simple. For accurate tracing, printed images should be black and white, NOT grayscale.

Day 2
Students should bring leather hard pieces to practice printing /transferring. It is recommended that the you bring both flat and round items to practice with. Clay Art Center will provide some leather-hard tiles for the second day of the workshop. Students should bring leather-hard pieces if they wish to practice printing/transferring on a round form. These techniques work on any clay body, at all temperatures, although reduction firing may alter the color of the underglazes. Students should also bring a small sponge and a rubber rib for newsprint transfers.
