Artist Statement:
My clay odyssey commenced with an imaginary animal assignment in the seventh grade where I realized that I could give form to my fantastical imaginings. Mythical beasts as well as their more prosaic fellows (warthogs, rabbits, musk oxen, etc.) have continued to take shape in my studio henceforth. For this exhibition I have been concerned with the idea of classical antagonists ie Dog vs Cat and Bull vs Bear and the concept of the "Push-Me-Pull-You" from the Doctor Doolittle series. I am also intrigued by graphic animal marking patterns as exemplified here by the Giant Anteater with its dramatic black, white and gray design. Their conical shape also seemed perfectly suited for a pair of cruets.
