Celebrating and Sharing Cultures at Clay Art Center
Clay Art Center celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, and Mid-Autumn Mooncakes Festival.
September 15th marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which celebrates the significant histories, cultures, and contributions made to U.S. society by individuals with Hispanic and Latino ancestry. Clay Art Center is pleased to present the work of Nitza Walesca Sierra, a Caribeña ceramic artist and educator born in the Bronx and raised in Northern Philadelphia. Nitza states that it is "through her artistic practice that she embodies a deep and meaningful ancestral connection to her place of origin: La Isla del Encanto, Puerto Rico."
Nitza has created an exciting collection of salad bowls and jewelry inspired by telas (fabrics) worn by her mother for this special shop-based event. See the collection of bowls online now through October 15th. Stop by the shop in person to see Nitza's bowls and jewelry.
The Clay Art Center community came together this week to enjoy some sunshine and delicious foods from Asia to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Mooncake Festival. We shared traditional Chinese mooncakes and Korean songpyeon, among other foods, to mark the occasion of the Harvest Full Moon. Thank you to everyone who contributed amazing dishes for us to sample and for sharing your traditions with us all!
