A Summer of Discovery at Clay Art Center
Smiles, creativity, and learning in our onsite and offsite programs in July
Summer Clay Camp is off to a great start at Clay Art Center, with inquisitive young minds and creative hands exploring the possibilities of clay in our classrooms. Students aged 12+ have been learning to throw on the wheel, while younger campers are creating sculptures of all kinds of themes, creatures, and characters.
Part of our programming includes gallery visits where students are treated to a Guided Gallery & Shop Tour with Exhibitions Director Regina Farrell-Fagan. The students have such insightful questions, and some have even taken the influence of the exhibiting artists back to the classroom with them!
Adult students are just starting into the Summer Session, discovering new skills and hidden talents with mold making, handbuilding, wheel throwing and more! Clay Art Center is proud to offer programs all year round that serve the educational and creative needs of of our community. Clay Art Center recently partnered with our local Port Chester Senior Center's Special Citizens Summer Camp to offer a one-day workshop for its constituents. Special Citizens is part of Clay Coming Together and generously funded by the Kathi and Peter Arnow Foundation. This is the second summer Clay Art Center has partnered with Special Citizens Summer Camp. Under Clay Art Center Instructor Jeffrey Dean, Students learned how to create their own mugs and plates using a slab-building technique, and decorated their pieces in vibrant colors with a low-fire glaze. We can't wait to see them when they come out of the kiln!
