A Week In Review: Positive Impact on our Community!
Excerpts from our May 18th Newsletter, and updates from our Community Arts Programs
On May 9, Clay Art Center partnered with Rye Presbyterian Church to offer a mask-making workshop to participants in the Coming Home program. The Coming Home program seeks to empower those who are returning to the community from incarceration. The mask project asks participants to think about how they see themselves, and how they think that the world, or specific others, see them. Community Arts teacher Susana Valera worked with participants to create masks that will be presented to Coming Home participants at their graduation in June.

Clay Art Center participated in the Port Chester Resource Fair this past Sunday, May 19 from 11am-3pm. The event brought together organizations in the community that offer services to Hispanic residents and was hosted by the Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board. Clay Art Center had a resource table at the event offering families an opportunity to get creative and engage with clay for free! The table was staffed by Clay Art Center Instructor Susana Valera and three of our high school interns from our Around The World In Clay Program, which is supported by the Common Sense Fund.
Our Community Arts programs help to get clay into the hands of our local friends and neighbors and ignite a passion for clay this past week with a special workshop at Don Bosco Community Center celebrating Mother's Day. Clay Art Center Instructor Emily Maldonado led the participants in the creation and glazing of slab-built mugs. This workshop was part of our Clay Coming Together series funded by the Kathi and Peter Arnow Foundation.
