A Week In Review: Excerpts from Clay Art Center Newsletter
Keep up with Clay Art Center with weekly updates from our Newsletter!
Did you know that Clay Art Center has created mosaic projects throughout Westchester and Fairfield counties? As part of our community arts programming, we partner with schools and other organizations to help beautify spaces and bring ceramic art into the public eye. Currently, we are working on a long-term project with Yonkers Middle High School to create a 22ft wide mosaic that will greet students and visitors for many years to come.
Students are actively involved in making the individual artworks, allowing them to participate in creating a legacy project conceived by their art teacher Denise Cachoian. This week the students took a field trip to Clay Art Center to see the progress of their work and get some inspiration from our tree mosaic, completed in 2013.

Throughout May, Clay Art Center celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, taking time to acknowledge the contributions that Asian Americans, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders have made to our communities, history, and culture in the United States.
Clay Art Center owes its origins to the hard work and vision of our co-founders Katherine Choy (b. 1929, Hong Kong/Shanghai) and Henry Okamoto (b. 1923, Lodi, California). Over the past two years, Clay Art Center has endeavored to make the Katherine Choy Collection available to the public, with a permanent display in our gallery. Viewing the Collection is free to the public daily, with Guided Tours on Wednesdays at 11am.

This past Saturday, Clay Art Center students were introduced to narrative sculpture techniques by Lydia C. Thompson (Bottom right) in her hands-on workshop. The gallery was host to several visitors to the current exhibition, including Siegel family (top right), and the Alumni of Mills College (bottom image). We also hosted students from Yonkers Middle High School, who toured our facility and explored their future ceramic possibilities. Between workshops and tours, there's always something fun and creative happening at Clay Art Center!
