Letter to our Community: Christine Fashion
June 27, 2020
As I begin packing my studio and clearing shelves, the stillness and silence of the studios has been a sharp contrast to the familiar vibrancy filling the air. Early in the pandemic, I felt myself focusing on the confinements of social distancing and left with a feeling of loss without our community. With this change, I found an abundance of time. This forced pause has allowed me the time to think, talk to others, assess priorities and leave my previously hurried pace of daily life.
In some ways, this newfound pause mimics what Clay Art Center's residency offers young and emerging artists. When they first enter the studio, they experience the benefit of time, space and freedom to develop their ideas. There are few opportunities that allow for time uninterrupted.
My discomfort has turned into gratitude for the past and an appreciation for the new ways we have come together. I have been overwhelmed by the support and compassion from everyone at CAC and how we have all adapted. I feel our studio has come together and shown true compassion and consideration for each other and our larger ceramics community.
I could not have been a part of a more compassionate community during this time and I want to thank all of you for making my time at CAC so remarkable.
Christine Fashion, Resident Artist (2018 - 2020)
