Artist Statement
Clay has been calling to me since I was a young child when I glimpsed the pottery wheel in action during summer camp. After leaving a 25-year career in finance, I finally had the chance to explore this lifelong dream and found my passion wheel-throwing functional pottery in porcelain. I find inspiration from the elements of nature. My finished pieces reflect a modern aesthetic and often evoke a sense of movement. This is particularly true in my “porcelain lace" works. These are wheel thrown and then altered by hand as the form calls to me. Every hole is created one-by-one and no two pieces are the same. These pendants are both fired in a cone 10 reduction kiln, but one is raw clay while the other is glazed in a glossy ice-blue creating variations in the light. The same bulb has a different temperature light depending on the pendant. Just as in nature, a slight breeze or a change in illumination will alter the way these pendants “light the way."
