Artist Statement:

Keiko Ashida gets her inspiration from nature. Since coming to New York from Japan over three decades ago, her artistic focus has been translating “the changing season’s beauty into the ceramics which are sometimes functional and other times sculptural...I shape what I feel from nature and add a minimum of glaze. The rest is up to the kiln where the flame creates a dramatic touch...I simply let the flame and clay play together.”

Keiko Ashida is a contemporary ceramic artist, Clay Art Center Artist, and Clay Art Center teacher who works predominantly in Cone 6 porcelain.
