A Learning Community at Clay Art Center
After more than 65 years, Clay Art Center continues to be home to a vibrant artist community.
Clay Art Center was founded in 1957 to be a thriving home for the ceramics community where artists could share inspiration, learn new skills, and encourage one another. Today, that vision is a reality—our Artist Program provides access to affordable studio space for over 50 ceramics artists and ensures that they have access to the tools and facilities they need. Sharing ideas, techniques, and working in a community setting helps artists to develop. Last week, the Member Artists gathered for a workshop on using an extruder to create forms, lead by Clay Art Center Artist Jamie Lee.
Mara Gross, a longtime ceramicist and Artist at Clay Art Center for the last three years, attended the workshop. “Jamie’s got a lot of knowledge and she’s willing to share it, that’s the best part. Offering this workshop brought in so many of the artists who lead busy lives… it drew us all together and gave us the opportunity to learn.”
“I had never used the extruder before and after the demo, I used it to make my own test tiles [for glazes]. Now it’s another tool in my toolbox. I’m not sure when I’ll use it, but now I have a sense of how it works - and how to clean it up.”
