New Arrivals Shopping Event Featuring the Best in Contemporary Ceramics

May 20 - June 10, 2022 - In Person & Online

Exciting things are happening at the Clay Art Center Shop! We have a special event on from now until June 10, featuring the best in contemporary ceramics from regional and national artists. What makes people fall in love with ceramics? When we curate items for our Shop, that is a primary question that we ask ourselves. For some, it is knowing that the mug form that is cradled in the hand drinking a morning coffee was made by the hand of another. For others, it is the joy of filling a special vase with fresh cut flowers from the garden, or serving lunch on an eclectic platter that can’t be found in a big brand retail store.

Ceramics have the unique appeal of being both craft and art, and our range of new items feature not only the finest craftsmanship, but also add art to your home that can be enjoyed by everyone. Our artists offer works in a wide range of color palettes, textures and designs that come from the results of firing techniques, or hand applied designs.

Love the look of drawing? Check out the work of Asta Bubliene who uses the natural world as inspiration for her tender images on bowls, mugs and wall sculptures. Looking for something for the table with a contemporary twist? Julie Buyon has a range of mugs and serving platters in colors that bring to mind cool breezes off the water.

Our Shop offers home accent pieces to enhance your living space whether you like neutrals or splashes of color. Kay Petronio clocks, lamps and vases explore texture with a distinct matt finish, while Deborah Jaffe brings clean lines enhanced by original artist photos turned into design motifs. For lovers of color, Shana Salaff makes jewel-toned ceramics that range from micro vessels to generous sized mugs and platters.

More subtle color palettes can be found in the robust mugs of Hayne Bayless, the woodfire sublime surfaces of Deb Heid wine cups, or the Art Deco inspired work of Jess Palmer in her jewelry and functional items.

Functional ceramics meant for everyday use are by no means ordinary and our artists make work that push us to reconsider our relationship with the daily ritual of food preparation and serving. Lindsay Scypta is inspired by Victorian tableware and her work ranges from highly textured mugs with cathedral-like patterns to salt and pepper sets that speak to an era of grandeur reimagined with a contemporary feel. Artist Wade MacDonald brings architectural influences into his mugs finished with surface designs that enhance the planes with geometric patterns or mother of pearl sheens, while Dustin Yager challenges us to see functional ceramics as items of expression and fun.

Robin Henschel brings her love for animals and nature into her everyday use items like bakers and vases, and Claire Cohen plays with surfaces that enhance her contemporary forms.
