CAC's Artist of the Month: Surya Radhakrishna
Surya Radhakrishna has been a student under CAC instructor, Jeanne Carreau, for nearly five years now. He is very excited to be CAC’s featured artist for the month of April and to be selling his work in the Shop at CAC and online on our website. His work will be available during the THEY exhibition opening on April 7th and “will beautifully complement the gallery show,” states CAC instructor, Jeanne Carreau.
Surya Radhakrishna was diagnosed with Autism at a very early age, and has always shown a high interest in art. Art is a language for him, and it gives him the ability to communicate what he wants to say. He draws a lot of inspiration from his surroundings – whether it’s a building, a glass sculpture, or nature, he tries to bring those ideas and express them in his work.
Radhakrishna first started working with clay in high school, with his teacher, Dorine Bosler, with whom he learned the basics of handling and throwing the wheel. He believes that she was the one who got him truly interested in working with clay. He expanded his skills and learning when he joined CAC under the guidance of Jeanne Carreau.
Radhakrishna loves to work in the environment at CAC, where the other potters and their work never fail to inspire him and make him feel a part of this clay community. He loves being a part of a school and studio where he can work alongside so many highly creative people and wonderful staff and students.
In his years of learning at Clay Art Center, he has had the occasion to display his pottery in the student exhibitions in the gallery. His favorite show that he participated in was Painted Earth, and it was held at Clay Art Center two years ago. He hopes that he continues to grow and share his work with this clay community.
