Clay Art Center and the community create the Purdy Street Mosaic
In partnership with the Port Chester Housing Authority the Clay Art Center teaching-artists worked alongside the residents of Purdy Street and Traverse street to create unique clay tiles for a new mosaic mural. The tiles depict each resident's idea of unity, community and family and will be part of a mosaic that will decorate the Purdy Street building in 2015.
This workshop allowed the artists to reach out to the community and really get a sense of what those words of unity, community and family really mean to the residents, allowing us to better understand our community. Some examples of the imagery used by the residents were sunshine, hand prints and other fun images. This program is made possible by an anonymous donor, that we are truly grateful for.
