This workshop will  focus on a studio  tool often overlooked: the extruder. Participants will  investigate how extrusions can be used to make functional stoneware and explore unconventional forming techniques by combining extrusions with slabs. 

The approach of this workshop will be to let the process show in the work; if we stay out of clay’s way, the material will reveal its nature and our results will remain fresh and lively. Myths will be busted and secrets revealed. 

This workshop will also interest throwers who would like to expand their horizons beyond the potter’s wheel. Students will learn how to use an extruder to make pieces such as cups, mugs, and/or vases as time allows.

Clay is included.
Firing is not included.

Prerequisite: All Levels - Some handbuilding experience helpful.

Artist Bio
Hayne Bayless makes hand-built stoneware pottery in Ivoryton, CT. Hayne has had the great fortune to be awarded the top prizes at two of the country's most important craft shows: the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C. and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. He teaches workshops all over the country and abroad.
