Join Paul as he discusses his ongoing creative practice in relation to the impact of personal, community and social influences. Paul says “I have a meditative practice. Therefore, my work often explores the inner resources individuals and communities develop in order to maintain equanimity in the face of failing personal supports and demoralizing social systems. I often work across mediums but I'm presently focusing on ceramic sculpture.”

Recent events in America have sharply highlighted the ongoing struggle for Social Justice and Racial Equality for African Americans in the face of police brutality and systemic racism. This panel (1) discusses art as a tool for communication, raising awareness and affecting positive change around these social issues and (2) examines how the ceramics community can address these issues within their own institutions.

Originally from New York, Rich Brown is based in Georgia, and is a full time studio potter with his own brand “Pottery32”. Join Rich as he discusses his journey into discovering ceramics and how working with clay has shaped the direction of his life. After attending his first pottery class at the age of 32 in Decatur, GA, Rich began an artistic journey to not only pursue an undeniable new found passion but to also inspire those around him.
