A Taste of Home is a national invitational exhibition, guest curated by Julia Galloway in conjunction with Clay Art Center. The show consists of ceramic cups or drinking vessels that each artist has created reflecting their relationship to the meaning of home, whether presented as a humble but favored object, vehicle of expression, or object of desire.

WELCOME TO AFRO CITY | Donté Hayes

Donté Hayes discusses his research of the pineapple as a symbol or welcoming and hospitality and the origin of the symbol in relation to slavery and agricultural colonization of South Carolina. He discusses how this research, and his interest in hip-hop culture, history, and science fiction influence his work. His artworks suggest the past, discuss the present, and explores possible futures interconnected to the African Diaspora, while also examining deeper social issues that broaden the conversation between all of humanity.

PANEL DISCUSSION: THE ROLE OF ART IN THE FIGHT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE| Moderated by Earlene Cox; Guests include Paul Briggs, Vinnie Bagwell, and Wesley Brown

Recent events in America have sharply highlighted the ongoing struggle for Social Justice and Racial Equality for African Americans in the face of police brutality and systemic racism. This panel (1) discusses art as a tool for communication, raising awareness and affecting positive change around these social issues and (2) examines how the ceramics community can address these issues within their own institutions.
