ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is strictly functional and I work exclusively in porcelain. I find my inspiration in the natural world with a special affinity for greenery and plant life, carving floral motifs and sculpting porcelain flowers into the majority of my pieces. After the firing process, these flower designs can sometimes become more vibrant and distinctive, but more often than not they become more subtle instead, only visible to viewers who choose to look for them. This mimics how, in nature, the most beautiful things are often hidden from view and must be found by looking closer. 
For me, the most important factor in my work is that it be both functional for its user and aesthetically pleasing for its viewer.
