HOMECOMING: 25th Anniversary of the Artist In Residence Program at Clay Art Center
Clay Art Center is proud to present HOMECOMING: an exhibition celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the nationally recognized Artist In Residence Program at Clay Art Center. Established in 1998 by Director Emeritus Reena Kashyap, over 50 young emerging artists have called Clay Art Center “home”. The artists in this exhibition represent the continuum of the program through their ongoing individual development and journeys as ceramicists. This exhibition presents current work from past Clay Art Center resident artists drawn from across the United States with an opportunity to survey them collectively. Since the program’s inception, Clay Art Center has provided valuable time and space for artists to refine their voice as they developed their work. In turn, the Residents each made significant contributions to Clay Art Center as both artists and educators. Many of our past residents have gone on to careers in the national ceramics field as artists and educators, and many continue their relationship with Clay Art Center through exhibition, shop and educational opportunities.
As part of the preparation for this exhibition, Director Emeritus Reena Kashyap shared these words with the invited artists:
“The Clay Art Center’s residency program has been enormously impactful in every way you look at it. It's like a gift that keeps giving. Each year a new resident arrives filled with talent, drive and enthusiasm to avail of the gift of time and space to create, work and teach at the center and this cycle repeats year after year to a welcome burst of joy every September as new residents arrive and get settled in. It was one of the best decisions I made - to invest in you as you started your journey and career in the clay world. I am so excited and counting days to welcome you back and to celebrate each and every one of you at the "Homecoming" exhibition in March 2023.” Reena Kashyap, Director Emeritus, Clay Art Center
The exhibition is on view in Clay Art Center Gallery from March 3rd to April 10, with a concurrent exhibition online from March 3 to April 10.
