“In this exhibition, artists are invited to share their voice as LGBTQIA+ individuals through ceramic vessels that carry the weight of lived experiences. The works presented here create concrete evidence of each artist's own existence, and in the utility and visual aspect of taking space, these vessels create a solid remembrance of a past self that is shared with others who are in their own metamorphosis. Holding Space is an acknowledgement of the artists as individuals, and a reflection of the space they are making for others in their journey.” Anika Major
These works represent a small part of the creative voice present in the contemporary LGBTQIA+ ceramics community, with each artist approaching their work from a personal place. Sharing these works collectively invites the viewer to consider how we can make space for growth and healing in our wider communities.
Participating artists: Jess Cheng, Ash King, Kenya Moffett-Garner, Lily Gray, Coco Raymond, Don Reynolds, Chase Travaille.
