ARTIST STATEMENT

I’m a ceramic artist living and working in Iowa City. I first arrived in Iowa City for grad school over a decade ago. After earning my MFA, my family and I moved across the country a handful of times in pursuit of art and a passion for teaching. This wonderful journey has led us back to Iowa City, which we are overjoyed to finally be able to call home. Whether in the studio or juggling motherhood, I'm always busy keeping my hands and mind busy with creative endeavors. Heidi McKay Designs is a line of ceramic ware I created with the intention of bringing joy to everyday experiences. To bring beauty, life, a story and a face to everyday objects. It is through these connections, I believe, that more care and beauty are breathed into life.
