The Mission of the Clay Art Center Gallery is to provide a platform for emerging and established artists to explore a wide range of topics that address materials, processes and techniques, and to engage in critical dialogue through clay. We are committed to exhibiting a variety of work representing diverse backgrounds, and we support our artist and student communities through gallery programming opportunities.
Clay Art Center encourages exhibition proposals from diverse candidates. All applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, transgender status, national origin, citizenship, age, disability or military or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
CLAY ART CENTER EXHIBITION AGREEMENT
General Provisions for Exhibitions and Installations
Clay Art Center will exercise all reasonable care in the handling and security of the Exhibitor's work while it is in custody. Unfortunately, Clay Art Center cannot assume responsibility for damages or loss beyond the limits of the agreed insurance provisions. Please make sure that the works in the exhibition are in condition and ready for installation. The Clay Art Center reserves the right to inspect, and where necessary, prepare the objects for exhibition according to standard gallery methods. Unless otherwise noted under "Additional Provisions" of this agreement form, permission is given to photograph the Exhibitor's work for publicity, education and catalog purposes.
Sales Information
The Exhibitor's work for this exhibition must be for sale. Exhibitors receive 60% of retail sales. Checks for works sold will be mailed four weeks after the close of the exhibit.
Online Exhibition
This agreement also allows Clay Art Center to host and publish the gallery exhibition as an online exhibition, with the same permissions for image use, content and sales.
Inventory Information
The Exhibitor agrees to furnish the Exhibitions Director with an inventory of the objects to be exhibited prior to the main event by the agreed deadline (supplied by e-mail from the Exhibitions Director). The Inventory List should include the following:
• Title
• Medium (60 character limit)
• Height/Width/Depth
• Price/Value
• Year completed
• Primary Discipline (ceramics)
• Description (300 character limit)
Credit to photographer where necessary
Exhibition Guidelines
Artists must be based in the United States and over the age of 18.
Works presented must be available and for sale at time of show.
Primary medium must be in clay – at least 85% where other media are utilized. Clay Art Center is a non-profit organization for the ceramic arts, and does not accept works in polymer clay, or paintings.
Work must stay in gallery until show ends.
Artwork that is hand delivered must be picked up at end of exhibition. Work that has been shipped to CAC will be returned at CAC’s expense.
Gallery commission is 40% of selling price.
Shipping Information
The Exhibitor is responsible for shipping/dropping off their work to Clay Art Center at his/her expense. CAC will return unsold work via UPS (unless arranged with another shipper beforehand) at CAC expense. Insurance on return shipping will also be provided. [If you drop off your work, you are responsible for picking it up, unless you provide ample shipping materials for your piece and make arrangements with Exhibitions Director.)
Clay Art Center will handle shipping of sold work, unless a prior “Drop Ship” agreement is made with individual artists. Artists who pack and ship from their studio will be reimbursed with costs being billed to customers.
Insurance Information
The Exhibitor must deliver an inventory of works for insurance purposes. Clay Art Center will do everything within its power to provide a safe and secure setting for the exhibition. Clay Art Center carries a "content of others" policy, which covers major catastrophes. In the event of damages or breakage occurring under our care during the exhibition period, (and not a direct cause of artwork creation or shipping to Clay Art Center) Clay Art Center will reimburse artists to the same value as a sales commission, ie. 60% of the retail price. Our insurance policy does not cover theft, however, in the unlikely event of a theft occurring, Clay Art Center will reimburse artists to the same value as a sales commission, ie. 60% of the retail price. CAC will photograph the exhibition for insurance purposes.
Publicity Materials
It is the Exhibitor's responsibility to provide Clay Art Center with publicity materials in the form of: High-resolution images, a current resume, paragraph biography and artist statement are due to the Exhibitions Manager by the agreed deadline to the main event (supplied by Exhibitions Manager through email correspondence).
Clay Art Center will generate and publish all marketing materials including a Press Release, regional and national publicity, and promotions across all social media platforms and ceramics publications where possible and appropriate. Exhibitor agrees to the use of images supplied for the purposes of Clay Art Center promoting the exhibition, sales, and events surrounding the exhibition. Clay Art Center will actively promote works for sale through its website and marketing media.
Storage
Unfortunately, Clay Art Center cannot be responsible for art that is not picked up within thirty (30) days following the artist's exhibition. After 30 days, Clay Art Center will have to charge the Exhibitor for storage.
Clay Art Center will provide an announcement of the exhibit, regional and national publicity, social media graphics and publicity, and insurance on site.
