On Wednesday, January 10th, CAC Resident Zoey Scheler will share her fascination with miniatures and her passion for the potter’s wheel during this exciting workshop for potters and hand-builders alike. Zoey will begin by throwing a number of small elements, as well as preparing slab constructed elements. The workshop will teach you the craft and importance of combining, altering and attaching multiple forms to create more complex ceramic objects.
Zoey will also demonstrate a variety of texturing techniques including stippling, sgraffito, and hand extrusion appliqués. Nichrome wire will be used as a drawing tool and as a method of expanding a sculpture’s physical space. Zoey will also demo finishing techniques that she uses in her practice, including the use of commercial underglaze, glaze, and underglaze pencil on both greenware and bisqueware. While Zoey’s focus is in the miniature, the skills learned in this workshop can be scaled to any size or form. She is excited to demonstrate for our members a new perspective on the potter’s wheel, a tool that goes beyond functional pottery.
We hope you will join us for this exciting demonstration.
This event is FREE for CAC Members, $10 for guests. Please contact Wendy Weinstein at wendy@clayartcenter.org or 914-937-2047x221 to reserve your spot.
