Pride Month Featured Artists: Ron Geibel, Kyle Lee, and Ash King

  • Clay Art Center 40 Beech Street Port Chester, NY, 10573 (map)

Clay Art Center Gallery and Shop presents three special collections of ceramic sculptures and handmade pottery available by artists Ron Geibel, Kyle Lee, and Ash King throughout the month of June.

Past Clay Art Center Artist-in-Residence, and current Associate Professor of Art and Chair of Studio Art at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, Ron Geibel presents Crafted Pleasures, a collection of 12 ceramic ice-cream sculptures from his “Lick” series.

Geibel states, “My artwork and research address the complex landscape among intimacy, pleasure, and authority as it concerns the opaque relationship between public and private desires that form queer identity. Through a cross-section of queer theory and materiality, I create highly crafted, intimately scaled objects that challenge perceptions of self. Candy-coated surfaces and picture-perfect facades provocatively explore how temptation and desire captivate, drawing one inevitably closer.”

The work will be on display and available to purchase at Clay Art Center as part of the Port Chester Arts Festival on May 31st, and throughout Pride Month until June 30th, 2025.

Kyle Lee was born in White Plains, NY, and currently resides and works in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn. Kyle Lee's passion for creating art began at a young age. He surrounded himself with creativity and was inspired to express himself through various mediums such as painting, drawing, photography and some moments of voice acting. Today, he creates voluptuous ceramic vessels, vases, well-turned cups and tableware that provide the canvas for his unique hand painting and surface treatments.

Over his 20 years as a ceramicist, Kyle has developed his unique style of ceramic art incorporating traditional shapes with a colorful and abstract sense of design and glaze application utilizing wax and vinyl resist color-blocking techniques.

A collection of Kyle’s work will be available to purchase at Clay Art Center Shop throughout Pride Month from June 1st to 30th.

Ash King is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Upstate New York. After spending a few years in Seattle, Ash relocated to Idaho. There they earned their BFA in Ceramics from Boise State University. Returning to Upstate New York they joined The Studio in Troy, NY as a resident artist, followed by co-founding Context Collective, in Troy.

As a process-based maker, Ash’s work reflects the infinite process of becoming. Their artistic practice is rooted in personal experience with the ongoing exploration of self, community, intersections, and dynamic social systems through the framework of identity.

Their belief is that art objects have the ability to embody the stories of their owners and the spaces they inhabit. Ash’s work functions as a canvas to express a nuanced perspective on the relationship between social norms, as well as individual and group identity.

A collection of Ash’s work will be available to purchase at Clay Art Center Shop throughout Pride Month from June 1st to 30th.
