The Healing Power of Clay
We bring the therapeutic and transformative powers of clay to those in need through our partnerships with local health organizations, support groups and nursing homes. These programs provide hands-on clay exploration to those who are recovering from behavioral health conditions, those affected by cancer, Alzheimer’s, autism and mental illness.
Programs Include
Clay Expressions | White Plains
In partnership with Cancer Support Community Greater NY & CT at Gilda's Club, CAC offers weekly classes to those impacted by cancer. Students explore the therapeutic qualities of clay while meditating and sharing their experiences with others.
Hope House | Port Chester
We offer programming for people recovering from behavioral health conditions through our partnership with Hope House. Students work with teaching artists to learn new artistic skills and create their own imaginative artworks. The program provides a space where students can be themselves, build their confidence, and find an artistic outlet during recovery.
Previous Healing Through Clay Programs
Wartburg with The Links of Westchester | Mount Vernon
In 2016 Clay Art Center provided therapeutic clay classes in partnership with the Westchester County (NY) Chapter of The Links, Inc. for patients living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. The Links is a premier African American women's service group, which joined forces with CAC to bring the "In An Art State of Mind” program to life. The Links fund the program and provide volunteers for each class, which stimulates the minds and creativity of those who have dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Youth Shelter of Westchester | Mount Vernon
Clay Art Center partnered with the Youth Shelter of Westchester to offer weekly clay classes. These clay classes provide a creative outlet to young men between the ages of 18-24 who are receiving an alternative to incarceration. Participants work on everything from clay self portraits to ceramic musical instruments.
Workshops for those with Alzheimer’s | Port Chester
In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, we have hosted a number of workshops for those living with early-onset Alzheimer’s, as well as their caregivers. Workshops have been offered at the Bristol in White Plains, the Osborn in Rye, Mount Kisco and the Lanza Family Center for all Ages. Monthly workshops were offered during the year at the Port Chester Nursing Home and the Wartburg Rehabilitation Center.
Family Coachman Center Workshops | White Plains
We have offered clay workshops for homeless youth through our partnership with Family Coachman Center, the largest homeless shelter in Westchester. This workshop gives students the chance to creatively explore clay and put aside the stresses of their living situations.
Clay Bingo | Liz Yonkers Adult Day Care Center
Each month we would join 15 older adults at Liz Yonkers Adult Day Care Center to collaborate on fun projects like planters, chess pieces, and personalized bingo chips.
